Since picking up my now brand-new camera again, after 25 years of laying photographically dormant, it’s taken me a while to get my head around the finer aspects of this art again. If I have to be honest, I should say that my inroads back into photography haven’t been smooth. It’s not because I have forgotten how to handle and steer a now digital camera which, as I quietly hoped, turned out to be pretty much the same as working with an analogue version. The Reciprocity Model is still alive and kicking, just as it was thirty or forty years ago. Ansel Adam’s Zone System too has gone from strength to strength, still applied by a faithful legion of photographic purists – if I noticed this correctly from many YouTubing hours. My frustration has not been of a technical nature. It’s been mostly about my inabilities to find and introduce the distinct styles that I can truly call my own.
